A replacement splash pan must match the wheel’s mounting arrangement and leave the required clearance around its head and bats. Outside diameter alone cannot establish either condition.
Identify the fitting underneath
Photograph the pan from above and below before ordering. Include the hooks, brackets or fasteners where it meets the wheel. Record the complete wheel model alongside those photographs; a similarly shaped pan from the same brand may attach differently.
SHIMPO’s ASPIRE, for example, uses its own one-piece pan. A description saying only “SHIMPO splash pan” leaves the important fit question unanswered. Ask the supplier for the model-specific part number and whether mounting hardware is included.
When a pan will not come off
Stop and disconnect the wheel, clear loose tools and inspect the removal path. A bat may overlap a section or hide its catch. Follow the manual’s order instead of levering against the wheelhead.
The Artista instructions distinguish between bat sizes when describing removal. Treat those as Artista rules, not limits for another machine. If the expected movement is still blocked after the specified parts are removed, look for packed clay or a damaged catch.
A leak does not always mean a cracked basin
Empty and clean the pan so the source is visible. Inspect the seam and underside in good light. A split in the plastic, an unseated joint and an overflow are separate problems; each calls for a different response.
- Water crossed the upper edge: check how full the basin became and whether it was installed in the intended position.
- Water escaped through a joint: inspect for trapped clay, missing fittings or a section that failed to seat.
- A visible split remains after cleaning: photograph it and ask about replacement or approved repair before modifying the part.
Check the working clearance
With the wheel stationary, fit the bat you intend to use and examine the space around its edge. Pin compatibility does not prove that your hands have the clearance specified for that wheel. Do not cut away a pan tab or enlarge its mounting point to accommodate an uncertain combination.
Reinstall the pan empty and check its attachment before use. Rubbing, movement or another leak means the fit is still unresolved; stop and check the model-specific assembly instructions.
