Clean the clay off the wheel before it becomes tomorrow’s dust. Use a damp cloth on the powered body and clean removable parts separately; a washable splash pan does not make the whole machine washable.
Clear the head and disconnect power
Move pots to their drying place, put sharp tools in a visible tray and collect reusable scraps in the correct clay container. Switch off and unplug the wheel. A sponge should never be your way of searching a clay-filled pan for a missing needle tool.
Place a cleaning bucket beside the machine. This keeps a dirty pan from becoming something you must carry through the house while deciding where to empty it. Keep glaze residue and unknown materials out of the plain-clay cleanup container.
Take off the bulk before wiping
Lift soft scraps from accessible surfaces, then wipe away the remaining film. Rinse or change the cloth when it starts spreading residue instead of collecting it. Around controls and seams, use a well-wrung cloth rather than squeezing water onto the machine.
For a stubborn dried patch, hold a damp cloth against the accessible residue to soften it. Scraping harder with a sharp edge can damage the surface. The Artista manual specifies a soft cloth or sponge and warns against running water over the body; it also excludes dishwasher cleaning, including the pan.
Clean the pan joint as well as the basin
Follow the model’s removal sequence. On some wheels a bat must come off before a pan section can move. Support the sections while releasing their catches, empty them into the appropriate collection container and clean the joining surfaces.
A clay lump left in a seam can prevent correct reassembly. Refit the empty pan and check that every intended catch or bracket is engaged. If a clean pan still needs force to seat, stop and inspect the fit rather than pulling it into position.
Leave the station ready to dry
Wipe residue from the stool, pedal exterior and nearby surfaces using their permitted cleaning methods. Wet-clean a suitable floor rather than sweeping dried scraps; Princeton EHS identifies those scraps as a source of airborne silica.
Let cleaned parts dry before enclosed storage. If water entered electrical components, leave the wheel disconnected and contact its manufacturer. Turning it on is not a safe way to find out whether the water caused damage.
